BEAUFORT - A boat owned by a South Carolina fire department is one of two that burned in a fire at a repair shop.

The Beaufort Fire Department boat was one of two destroyed when the fire started Saturday at a repair shop in Burton.

Beaufort Fire Department spokesman Dan Byrne says the city had used its boat for water search and rescue missions.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says the fire started after a 13-year-old boy cranked the ignition of the other boat. The sheriff's report says the boy gave investigators different versions of what happened. The investigation is continuing.
