State political writer Gina Smith is sharing the pages of this month’s Glamour with first lady Michelle Obama.
In this month’s magazine, now on newsstands, Smith recounted her encounter with S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford in June as he was returning from a liaison with his Argentinian lover.
Later that day, Sanford admitted to the world that he lied to staffers when he said he was hiking on the Appalachian Trail, touching off a scandal that still hasn’t subsided.
“She Busted Governor Mark Sanford for Cheating,” reads the headline on page 86 of Glamour. Smith’s story is one of several vignettes from female journalists on the big stories of 2009.
“...This reminded me that old-fashioned shoe-leather reporting still matters — you hunt people down and hold them accountable,” Smith told writer Liz Welch.
The cover of Glamour features a photo of Michelle Obama, one of the Women of the Year. The issue also features an exclusive interview with singer Rihanna, who opens up about her abusive relationship with singer Chris Brown.
