The Richland 2 school board has hired an Illinois firm to formally conduct the search for a new superintendent.

BWP & Associates of Libertyville is familiar with South Carolina, having completed superintendent searches in several school districts, including Richland 1 and Kershaw County in the Midilands.

The search team will begin Dec. 8-9 to interview parents, community representatives, employees and students to find out what they'd like to see in the next superintendent.

Current Richland 2 Superintendent Steve Hefner is retiring at the end of the academic year.
