The State newspaper’s photography staff has been named Staff of the Year by the S.C. News Photographers Association.
Based on points awarded in the still photojournalism portion of the SCNPA annual contest, points for first, second and third places and honorable mentions are divided by the number of staff positions.
The State photography staff scored an average of 81.3 points per photographer on staff. The Anderson Independent-Mail averaged 66.6 points and The (Charleston) Post and Courier finished third with an average of 50 points.
The State’s photographer C. Aluka Berry was named Photographer of the Year by the S.C. News Photographers Association.
“Beautiful set of singles,” said the judges’ comments. “I think this photographer shoots more for the reader than for themselves.”
Gerry Melendez of The State was runner-up for the top spot.
