Best Bet: Children to gather for patriotic party

Even though the Fourth of July is over, Midlands families can still have more red, white and blue fun. That’s because the Richland County Recreation Commission is hosting its seventh-annual “Kids Celebrate America” 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the State House grounds.

Children of all ages will have the chance to sing patriotic songs, play games and participate in the “kazoobie” band with the “King of Kazoo” Rick Hubbard.

The event is free. Be sure to bring a picnic lunch, plenty of water and sunscreen.

Families, summer camps and day cares are welcome. Groups are encouraged to call ahead at (803) 754-6720, Ext. 206.

The State House is located at Gervais Street and Assembly Street.
