Chapin High in Lexington-Richland 5 was among seven S.C. private and public schools named to a list of 314 nationwide National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2009.
The program recognizes superior academic achievement or dramatic gains in achievement in public and private K-12 schools nationwide.
Among the state’s public school winners: Chukker Creek Elementary, Aiken; Carolina Elementary, Hartsville; Midland Elementary, Galivants Ferry; and Ninety Six High, Ninety Six.
Representatives from winning schools will attend a November awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
