High winds leave 5,500 homes without power

About 5,500 households were left without power Sunday night, as high winds knocked down power lines.

An SCE&G spokeswoman said the outages were not concentrated in any particular area, and instead were scattered throughout the service area.

The Midlands escaped most of the severe weather that swept across parts of Georgia and South Carolina this weekend.
