The battle for supremacy in South Carolina boys cross country continued on Saturday in North Carolina.
Ridge View, which staked claim to the No. 1 overall position at the Coaches Classic gathering last month, took a step back on Saturday at the Wendy’s Invitational In Charlotte. The Blazers, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, finished second in the Open Division behind Hilton Head, ranked No. 1 in 3A and second behind RV in the SCTCCCA all-classification rakings.
Hilton Head, which lost its top overall billing to Ridge View at the Coaches Classic, avenged that disappointing performance by easily mastering the Blazers, 51-91.
Joe Keitt and David Jennings ran extremely well for RV, placing fourth and seventh, respectively, with times of 16:12 and 16:26. The difference in the team matters, however, was rather stark. Hilton Head placed all five scoring runner in the Top 16.
Raeven Lantz (22nd, 17:00), Jay Lynch (26th, 17:11) and Step Rembert (32nd, 17:18) accounted for the rest of Ridge View’s team points.
