Senior, running back, Gilbert High
SO FAR THIS SEASON: Anderson leads the Midlands in rushing yards with 904 yards on 110 carries. The Indians are 5-1 and ranked 10th in Class 2A.
DID YOU EXPECT TO HAVE THE KIND OF SEASON YOU’RE HAVING RIGHT NOW?
“Well, I had high expectations for myself, but I was a little surprised (by the rushing statistics). My offensive line has just done a good job and they’re helping me have a great season. They’re helping me reach some of the goals I set for myself.”
WHAT KIND OF GOALS? “First of all, I want us to win. and included in that, I’d like to rush for at least 150 yards (a game) and have two or three touchdowns (in each game). Season-wise, I wanted to run for 2,000 yards and something like 30 touchdowns.”
TWO THOUSAND IS A LOT OF YARDS. WHY SUCH A HIGH GOAL?
“My coach (Barry Harley) tells me that he expects a lot out of me and the team so I’ve got to expect a lot out of myself. If I get those yards, then we’ll be where we need to be.”
WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN THE REST OF THE SEASON FOR THE TEAM TO REACH ITS GOAL?
“Our defense is playing well and they need to keep doing what they are doing. Our defense has sort of carried us so far by shutting people out and us scoring some points. But you know, what we have to do is keep doing those things and take one game at a time.”
