It’s time to shine the mid-season spotlight on high school football in the Midlands.

So The State’s prep staff has come up with a team that represents many different schools of all classifications. These players have performed well over the first half, and their teams are gearing up for the stretch run. All statistics through games of Oct. 4.

OFFENSE

QB: Joey Carter, Ben Lippen. Completed 113 of 186 passes for 1,538 yards and 20 touchdowns.

RB: Anthony Carden, Lexington. Rushed for 826 yards and 12 touchdowns on 157 carries.

RB: Marco Anderson, Gilbert. Rushed for 904 yards and 17 touchdowns on 110 carries.

RB: Phillip Osborne, Lugoff-Elgin. Rushed for 851 yards and five touchdowns on 108 carries.

WR: Morgan Whalen, Heathwood Hall. Has 44 receptions for 711 yards and five touchdowns.

WR: Jordan Giles, Spring Valley. Has 33 catches for 469 yards and three touchdowns.

OL: Justin Quattlebaum, Batesburg-Leesville. Graded out at 86 percent with 11 knockdowns.

OL: Derek Kelly, Dutch Fork. Average grade of 94 percent with 16 pancakes.

OL: James Barnes, Keenan. Overall grade of 85 percent for strong offense.

OL: Darryl Desira, RNE. A consistent performer up front for the potent Cavalier offense.

OL: Martin Macio, Pelion. Graded out at 91 pecent to lead Panther attack.

PK: Grant Clayton, A.C. Flora. Made 6-of-9 field goals with long of 53 yards.

DEFENSE

DL: Justin Anderson, Blythewood. Has 25 tackles, six for loss, and two forced fumbles.

DL: Josh Roseborough, Fairfield Central. Has posted 40 tackles and six sacks.

DL: Farrington Hugenin, Dreher. Has 47 tackles and seven sacks.

LB: Lorenzo Boyles, Columbia. Leads team with 78 tackles.

LB: Hayward Martin, Lower Richland. Has 94 tackles with one sack and one interception.

LB: Will Patterson, Hammond. Has made 57 tackles and racked up seven sacks.

LB: Jordan Kirven, Irmo. Has piled up 79 tackles and two sacks for the Yellow Jackets.

DB: David Davis, Ridge View. Has 41 tackles, four pass breakups and two interceptions.

DB: Brandon Blume, White Knoll. Has 38 tackles, three pass breakups and two caused fumbles.

DB: John Sloan, Chapin. Compiled 65 tackles with an interception.

DB: Donald Purcell, Eau Claire. Has racked up 63.5 tackles and 6.5 sacks.

P: W.T. Murden, Airport. The versatile quarterback punts for a 38-yard average.
