BASKETBALL

Camden’s Bradford wins Hoop Shoot

Camden Middle School’s Dalton Bradford won the Elks Hoop Shoot Southeast Regional in Valdosta, Ga.

Bradford, 13 and representing Camden-Lugoff Lodge No. 2603, made 22 of 25 free throws in the 12-to-13-year-old Boys division. Bradford advances to the national tournament in Springfield, Mass., to be among the 72 players vying for the title April 23-26.

Now in its 37th year, the Elks “Hoop Shoot” Free Throw Contest has seen more than 104 million participants since its inception, making it the largest co-educational youth sports program in the nation.

GOLF

Brookland-Cayce to hold golf day

The Brookland-Cayce High School Educational Foundation will hold its ninth annual Golf Classic and Raffle on April 13 at Charwood Country Club.

Contests include Straight Drive, Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive. Registration and lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. Shotgun Start will be at 12:30 p.m. A cookout will be held and prizes awarded immediately following golf.

Irmo player sets record

Lake Murray Lacrosse Club’s Chris Troyer set a high school single-game record with 11 goals in a 13-0 win against Wade Hampton March 21.

Troyer is a junior at Irmo High.

SAILING

Easter Regatta set

The Columbia Sailing Club (CSC) will host the 42nd annual Easter Regatta, April 9-12, on Lake Murray. The regatta offers three days of racing and social activities and is open to skippers and crew of J/24 sailboats.

Past Easter Regattas have drawn competitors from a dozen or more states throughout the Southeast, Northeast, and Midwest. Spectators may watch the races near the Lake Murray Dam.

CSC is also holding an open house during the regatta. The general public is welcome at the club on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
