When first ticketed, drivers face fines ranging from $5 for parking improperly to $200 for parking in a handicapped zone.

Costs for failing to pay a parking ticket can add up quickly:

• If a $7 fine is not paid within seven days, it is considered late and will increase to $12.

• If it is not paid within the next 30 days, it will increase to $17.

• If it still is not paid within 30 days after that, it doubles, maxing out at $34.
