A couple who thought they had won a car in a promotional sale at a Beaufort car dealership began cursing and attempting to hit employees when they were told they had not won the car, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The couple arrived at Butler Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep under the impression they had the grand-prize-winning number, but an employee told them they had won only a $5 Walmart gift card, not a new car.

The couple became irate, cursing at employees and trying to kick and hit them, but they were both carrying young children and were unable to land any blows, the report said. One of them threw a contest poster at an employee, hitting the ceiling and breaking some of the tiles.

The dealership did not pursue charges against the couple, but the 44-year-old husband was charged with driving with a suspended license after the family tried to drive away from the dealership before they were stopped by deputies.
