A 17-year-old Lexington County teen was struck and killed by a motorist over the weekend as he tried to move an injured deer from the roadway.
William Patrick Corley, of Gilbert, had parked his car by the roadside and was helping another person who had hit the deer remove the deer from the highway when he was hit by a 2006 Toyota Camry around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Lexington County coroner's office.
Corley was pronounced dead at the scene, in the 1300 block of Hwy.378, with massive head and body trauma.
Corley would have turned 18 Sunday.
In its initial report, the S.C. Highway Patrol gave no information on whether charges would be filed against the driver of the Camry, Megan Kidd, 20, of Saluda. The patrol report also did not reveal how fast she was going at the time of impact.
Kidd was not injured. The coroner's office and the highway patrol continue to investigate.
