TDC Cutting Tools Inc. said Friday it plans to locate overseas headquarters in Oconee County where its subsidiary, Greenfield Industries, now operates.
The Chinese company said it will invest $8.2 million to construct the TDC Overseas campus, which will include a 32,000-square-foot office building and a 10,000-square-foot recycling center.
The company currently operates in a 168,000-square-foot building.
TDC said it would hire 38 more workers to staff the new operations.
TDC Cutting Tools and Greenfield Industries manufacture and sell drills, taps, end mills and other cutting tools. TDC said the companies employ more than 3,300 worldwide and manufacture more than 300 million tools a year.
Site work is expected to begin next month with completion expected for May 2015.
TDC said it would hire sales personnel and sales support staff to manage its growth and expansion in the United States and Canadian markets.

“Through this expansion, TDC has positioned itself for strong future growth in its overseas markets. TDC chose Oconee County for its overseas headquarters largely due to the proximity to Clemson University and Tri-County Technical College, the good support provided by both county and state governments, regional infrastructure and potential cost advantages,” said Jeff Chee, founder and CEO of TDC Cutting Tools Inc.
