Gas bills are going down for SCE&G customers, the Cayce-based utility announced Wednesday.
The gas rate on December bills is down 1 percent compared with November, South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. said. For the average gas customer, the decrease will amount to $1.01 for the month.
Still, the average gas bill will be up 3.72 percent, or about $3.56, compared with December 2008, the utility said.
Bills are up because SCE&G said it has to pay more for natural gas. State law allows utilities to pass along the cost of fuel to customers without any markup.
