The Home Depot said Wednesday that it's filling about 130 jobs at a new West Columbia distribution center.
The company needs full- and part-time warehouse and office workers for its 500,000-square-foot facility scheduled to open this spring on Foster Brothers Drive.
The distribution center will replenish inventory at Home Depot stores in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia, spokesman Craig Fishel said.
The center will employ about 400 when fully staffed by 2011, Fishel said. The next round of hiring should come in the middle of next year.
Lexington County traditionally has the state's lowest jobless rate. Neighboring Richland County had South Carolina's fourth-lowest rate in October.
Still, an estimated 30,000 people in those counties are actively looking for work, about 10,000 more than a year ago, according to federal data.
Beginning Dec. 30, apply at careers.homedepot.com. Once on the site, select "Search" then "Distribution Center/Hourly." Applicants also are taken at career kiosks inside Home Depot stores.
The Home Depot said its employee benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance as well as a 401(k) plan, a discounted stock purchase plan and bonus program.
