The changing traffic patterns on eastbound I-20 in northeast Richland County created headaches Saturday.

Saturday afternoon, commuters were reporting major delays in a seven-mile construction zone that includes the busy Clemson Road intersection.

Overnight Friday, eastbound traffic was shifted to two inside lanes separated by concrete barriers as part on the ongoing road-widening project. The lane shift is allowing the removal and reconstruction of existing eastbound concrete lanes and the replacement of the eastbound bridge over Alpine Road.

The interstate is being widened from the intersection with I-77 to Spears Creek Church Road.
