Midlands People & Achievements: Lonnie Carter

Lonnie Carter, president and CEO of Santee Cooper in Monks Corner, has received the American Public Power Association’s Alex Radin Distinguished Service Award, which is the highest honor granted by the association. It is given in recognition of exceptional leadership and dedication to public power. Carter served as the American Public Power Association’s chairman of the board from 2010-2011. He joined the utility as an analyst in 1982, and has been CEO of Santee Cooper since 2004. State-owned Santee Cooper provides power to 2 million S.C. residents through electric cooperatives in all 46 counties.
