Chick-fil-A will open its newest Midlands restaurant in May at 4295 Sunset Blvd. Loyal customers know what that means: Another chance to win a year’s worth of meals on opening day.

The Atlanta-based chicken chain – known for its mischievous bovine mascots that implore consumers to “Eat Mor Chikin” – has been expanding heavily in the Columbia area for the past five years.

In 2009, a couple hundred customers camped out at a new standalone restaurant in West Columbia for a chance to win 52 free meal tickets for No. 1 combos – a chicken sandwich, fries and a drink. The first 100 – chosen by a lottery system after a 24-hour campout – win the prize. The contest has a cult following wherever a new store opens.

Lexington’s store will feature a dual drive-thru and a children’s indoor play area with a section for toddlers. It will employ around 80 people.
