When you go to your neighborhood pharmacy this fall, you might be able to talk with somebody about health insurance while waiting for your prescription to be filled.
CVS Caremark Thursday released results of a survey that showed their customers need more information about the insurance exchanges scheduled to begin signing up customers Oct. 1.
In an effort to fill the information gap, CVS Caremark will roll out an an information and outreach program to help customers gain access to health insurance marketplace information, including retail events and brochure displays at its more than 7,400 retail stores and 650 MinuteClinic locations. Information will also be available online at www.cvs.com/insurance.
Expect these sorts of information outlets to pop up in expected and unexpected places this fall. Federal health officials have been offering public library workers training on insurance exchanges. Richland Library is among those working out the details for an insurance exchange outreach, according to spokeswoman Padgett Mozingo.

The Caremark survey, based on a sample of more than 1,000 respondents, found general awareness of the Affordable Care Act has increased to 74 percent, up from 57 percent as seen in a similar 2011 CVS Caremark survey. But the new survey found that 36 percent of respondents who are likely to enroll in health exchanges need more information and help in evaluating their choices. The lack of knowledge goes down to basic levels. Only 48 percent of those who are eligible for an insurance subsidy believe that they are.
