The Columbia Regional Visitors Center plans to move to a more visible location in the heart of the Vista, into a small new building it hopes to build next to LongHorn Steakhouse.
Currently located inside the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, the Visitors Center would move just up the street into a small, contemporary building to be constructed along Lincoln Street beneath the old train depot awning that stretches from Gervais to Senate streets.
The new building would abut LongHorn Steakhouse and sit along the same brick-paved stretch of Lincoln Street as World of Beer and Moriarty’s Irish Pub. Liberty Taproom is across the street.
At just 11 feet tall, the new building would be tucked under the train depot awning, not affecting its structure. Set back from the walkway, the brick building with a contemporary glass entryway and aluminum detailing would be flanked by two outdoor brick seating areas.
Never miss a local story.
The project seeks design approval from the city’s Design/Development Review Commission at Thursday’s 4 p.m. meeting. City staff has recommended approval.
