Fort Jackson will hold a public meeting next month to discuss the environmental assessment for alternatives to repairing dams at Semmes and Legion lakes, which were damaged in the historic October 2015 floods.
The meeting will be Wednesday at the Columbia Scottish Rite Center, 7230 Garners Ferry Road, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will have two purposes: inform the public of the potential environmental impacts of the alternatives being evaluated and seek the public’s feedback about proposed repairs.
The fort said in a news release that the meeting is not a forum for discussing the storm. Because of ongoing litigation, “Fort Jackson officials are not able to address any questions regarding last year’s storm at this time,” the news release said.
Questions concerning that litigation may be addressed to Karen L Wilson, Attorney Advisor, Office of Legislative Affairs, U.S. Department of Justice, (202) 616-0658, fax: (202) 514-9353.
