Three people were arrested on Saturday after their van nearly hit a deputy who had stopped to check out why they were parked on a deserted road.
Around 4:15 pm, the unnamed deputy was walking toward the white minivan on the 1300 block of Old Two Notch Road when it sped toward him, making him jump out of the way to avoid being hit, Sgt. Kevin Lawrence of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said. As he jumped he pulled his gun and the van stopped, Lawrence said.
The three occupants - Isaac J. Havens, 18, Melanie Youngblood, 19, and a 16-year-old minor were charged with simple possession of marijuana. Havens, the driver, was also charged with attempted murder, Lawrence said.
