The search for a missing West Union man last seen kayaking on Lake Hartwell appears to have ended tragically.
A body believed to be that of Brady Hamby, 64, was found on the Georgia side of Lake Hartwell in Hart County, Scott Krein of the Oconee County Emergency Services said in a statement released Sunday.
Hamby was found by a fisherman around 2:30 p.m., Hart County coroner Mike Adams said.
A wide-scale search of the lake including state and county rescue workers and dive teams began on Feb. 11 after Hamby failed to return to Hartwell State Park. The search was called off five days later after a winter storm moved into the area.
Hamby has been missing for more than three weeks.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Hart County Coroner’s Office will be finalizing the investigation, Krein said.
An autopsy will be performed later in the week to determine positive identification, Adams said.
