A Friday afternoon house fire sent three people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Columbia Fire Department responded at about 5:45 p.m. to the fire at 2320 Pleasant Ridge Road, said fire department spokesman Brick Lewis. That's near Leesburg Road in Richland County.

Lewis said the first units reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the second story of the house's attached garage. A mother and son were transported by Richland County EMS to a local hospital, as was a firefighter.

The fire is under investigation by the Richland County Fire Marshals Office.
