The Grand Strand’s twice-failed theme park is trying to unload its rides.
More than a dozen rides that used to make up the park -- including the Hard Rock Park’s signature Led Zeppelin roller coaster that still towers near George Bishop Parkway -- is listed for sale by Ital International, which brokers the sale of new and used theme park and amusement rides.
A dark ride, a children’s playground, flume and water rides and a carousel are among the other former Freestyle Music Park rides listed for sale on the Ital International website.
No prices are given, though the brief description on some of the rides say they can be sold alone or as part of a “Freestyle” package, referencing the former park’s second name.
Some of the rides are touted as being “used only two short seasons.”
The park, in Fantasy Harbour off U.S. 501 near the Intracoastal Waterway, failed twice in two years. It debuted as Hard Rock Park in 2008 and closed after one summer, then was bought out of bankruptcy and reopened as Freestyle Music Park in 2009. The park closed for good after the 2009 summer season.
The park’s future has been in question since then. Owners in 2011 tried to find a buyer or operator of the park, but had no luck. The goal was to keep the park intact and not sell off the rides, the park’s attorney at the time said.
Earlier this year, Abiding Village, an arm of Christ United Methodist Church that offers classes and other outreach near the park, had tried to raise $10 million to buy the property, a deal church officials said would not include the rides. The group didn’t raise the money by the deadline.
Representatives for the park and for Ital International could not be reached Tuesday.
