On Monday, the Governor’s Mansion will hold its annual open house for the holidays. The residence of Gov. Nikki Haley and her family, built in 1855, is readied for Christmas in the finest of ways.
Members of the Columbia Garden Club take on the task of bringing holiday cheer to the mansion. Members of the South Carolina Christmas Tree Growers Association provided five Christmas trees. Members of the Future Farmers of America from Lexington Technology Center presented poinsettias.
The garden club has been decorating the mansion since 1981.
Entering the mansion, you’ll see touches of South Carolina immediately. The wreath is made of Little Gem Magnolia leaves. The holiday trees are decorated with homemade ornaments made of sand dollars, photos of significant South Carolina landmarks, and Christmas cards.
Wreaths throughout the mansion were created by the Horticulture Division of the SC Department of Corrections.
