A pair of water-main breaks has boil water advisories in effect for Columbia Water Works customers.
A six-inch water main break is impacting Lexington County customers on Lexington Street (between Chapin Road and Columbia Avenue) and Beaufort Street (between Lexington Street and East Boundary). Customers are instructed to boil their water for at least one full minute before drinking or cooking.
Any customers near the area who have lost water or water pressure are advised to do the same. Also, any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.
A separate 12-inch water-main break is impacting Richland County customers of Park Street (between Senate Street and Greene Street). The same boil water procedures should be followed — boiling for at least one minute before using water to drink or cook.
The City of Columbia Water Works is presently working to correct the problem.
