Latest storm numbers: Troopers respond to 2,000 weather calls, 25 shelters open

Gov. Nikki Haley held a conference call with agency directors on Wednesday evening -- her sixth meeting with emergency staff since Monday, her office said.

All but six counties have decided to close their offices Thursday. Four counties say they will be open -- Beaufort, Georgetown Greenwood and Jasper. Another two counties -- Horry and Williamsburg -- have not decided.

Here is the latest information from the governor's office:

• Roads: The Department of Transportation has 1,364 maintenance workers involved in clean up. The agency has used 7,763 tons of salt.
• Traffic: Over the past 24 hours, the S.C. Highway Patrol has responded to 2,044 weather-related calls - including 731 collisions, 446 trees in roadways and 117 abandoned vehicles. Troopers are getting assistance from the State Law Enforcement Division and Department of Natural Resources agents. The S.C. National Guard has 128 soldiers deployed in supporting highway operations with wrecker crews and equipment.
• Shelters: The American Red Cross has opened 25 shelters . The state Department of Health and Environmental Control has six special medical-need shelters open with two additional shelters being prepared. The S.C. Department of Social Services is helping with the shelters.
• Power Outages: 227,718. homes without power as of 6 p.m. More than 4,600 workers from 12 states trying to restore electricity.
