The Columbia Fire Department swift water rescue team was on the Lower Saluda river Monday, for recertification training.

The scenarios played out in the river included a person falling into the water and having to be rescued, either by boat or from the bank with a line throw.

Also, recovery from an island in shallow water and helping someone with a boat pinned against the rocks by the current.

The department emphasizes the importance of wearing a personal floatation device when on the river.
