Batesburg-Leesville officials did nothing improper in looking at a variety of plans for new water and sewage facilities that they decided not to build, prosecutors say.
“I do not find any evidence which supports criminal prosecution or a grand jury investigation in this matter,” deputy 11th Circuit Solicitor Dayton Riddle said in a March 5 letter to State Law Enforcement Division officials that was made public Tuesday. “This appears to me to be a political issue best left to the voters of Batesburg-Leesville.”
Town leaders asked SLED to investigate the situation last year after complaints from foes alleging misuse of money.
