Three people on a boat in the Congaree River in the vicinity of the Blossom Street bridge were rescued Sunday afternoon by a passing boat.
The three who were rescued were on a boat that started taking on water and apparently sank an hour or two before sundown, according to initial reports from the Columbia Fire Department.
The three rescued people were then taken to the landing on Rosewood Drive extention, where river units from the Columbia Fire Department and the Richland County EMS were, said department spokesman Brick Lewis.
The EMS took two persons to a local hospital, and the third person was treated and released, Lewis said. He did not know the condition of the two who were taken to the hospital.
The boat that took on water had been anchored in the river when the incident happened, he said.
