A Sunday afternoon house fire in the Quail Hollow neighborhood of West Columbia appears to have destroyed most if not all of the home causing more than a million dollars in damages, officials say.
A woman who was at home at the time of the fire was able to escape, said Capt. Thomas Carson with the West Columbia Fire Department.
Carson said the call came in at 1:10 p.m. Sunday. When firefighters reached the house on Holly Ridge Lane, the home was completely engulfed.
More than 40 firefighters from area departments worked to put out the blaze, Carson said, with firefighters from the Irmo and Lexington County Fire Departments assisting. Two firefighters were treated with minor injuries.

Damage to the home was extensive, he said, and would probably be more than a million dollars. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time and continues to be under investigation.
