The Richland County elections office has split from its voter registration functions, as required under a judge’s order.

Tuesday, the Richland County Election Commission met to make it official.

“The offices are separate and apart,” interim elections director Samuel Selph announced at the 15-minute meeting.

Last year, Judge Thomas Cooper ruled the 2011 law merging the two functions was unconstitutional because it was accomplished by a single-county law. Local legislators are accepting applications through April 18 for five election board members as they revert to the former set-up.
