Kayaker rescued from the Saluda River Thursday morning

The kayaker stuck on the Saluda River Thursday morning has been rescued.

"He was rescued from river without incident," Brick Lewis, a spokesman for the Columbia Fire Department, said. "We were able to swim out to him and float out of rapids into calmer water. He was picked up by a rescue boat."

The kayaker became stuck on the river just above Riverbanks Zoo a little after 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

He was not in distress but he was stuck on Mill Race, which is the area of the river, Lewis said.
