COLUMBIA SC It was a record-setting rain Thursday but the Columbia area suffered sporadic flooding on roads that disappeared quickly, the National Weather Service says.
Rainfall at Columbia Metropolitan Airport totalled 1.9 inches, beating the former record of 1.55 inches for May 15 set in 1976.
It left flooded streets for a few hours, mainly in the Eastover area where rain was a little heavier.. A school bus got stuck in a rain-filled ditch with one student aboard, who was rescued safely, Richland 1 officials said.
Otherwise, there were no reports of major damage or calls for help related to the storm, Richland County sheriff’s spokesman Curtis Wilson said.
