Two people remain in area hospitals after a deck collapsed Friday night at the Sea View Inn.
Pawleys Island Police Chief Mike Fanning said five people were transported to Grand Strand Regional Hospital after the collapse and eight were taken to either Waccamaw Medical Center or Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
“Two people were admitted to the hospital, but I don’t know their conditions or why,” Fanning said Saturday. “The rest were treated and released Friday night.”
The deck was 10 to 12 feet off the ground. Emergency workers from Georgetown County, Murrells Inlet Garden City and Horry County Fire agencies were called for mutual aid. A nearby road was temporarily closed Friday night and re-opened at about 10:30 p.m., Fanning said.
Fanning said the group of people were standing on the porch and no one was injured below them.
“Thank goodness there was nobody under it,” Fanning said.
Georgetown County building inspectors will investigate the cause of the collapse, but preliminary belief is the porch collapsed because there were too many people on it, Fanning said.
The rest of the structure, including remaining porches, were determined safe.
