A tornado touched down in Orangeburg County late Monday, causing minor damage along a path that stretched 1.5 miles long and about 75 yards wide, according to the National Weather Service.
Experts from the Columbia National Weather Service office did a storm survey Tuesday to confirm the twister, which hit at 10:17 p.m. Monday. They found trees snapped off and uprooted in a manner that indicated tornadic winds in the 75-85 mph range, making it an EF0 rated tornado.
The tornado lasted about two minutes along Ditch Bank Road, Old School House Road, Ebenezer Road and Fiesta Court east of Bowman. No structural damage was reported connected to the tornado, but straight-line winds associated with the same thunderstorm blew down a shed and tore the roof off a cattle barn nearby, according to the weather service.
