A reservist with the 315th Maintenance Group at Joint Base Charleston died Saturday during training exercises.
According to Maj. Wayne Capps, a Joint Base Charleston spokesman, Staff Sgt. Richard Spofford, 26, of North Charleston, collapsed during his Air Force physical fitness test.
Capps said Spofford was transported to Trident Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
“The men and women of Joint Base Charleston are deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant Spofford,” Sauter said. “Richard was an integral part of the 315th family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Richard’s family, friends and co-workers during this difficult time.”
Spofford has been a member for the 315th Airlift Wing since January 2013, Capps said.
