Veteran Batesburg-Leesville town manager Joan Taylor is retiring Aug. 29.

She spent 33 years with the Lexington County community of 5,500 residents, the last 12 as town manager overseeing the daily operation of Town Hall.

In a statement, the 55-year-old Taylor said she wants to spend more time with family, particularly her grandchildren.

Mayor Rita Crapps saluted Taylor for making sure the town remains "in such good financial shape."
