The Orangeburg County coroner's office has identified the victim of Friday's fatal accident involving a tractor trailer that closed a portion of Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County.
Benjamin Amstutz, Jr. of Woodberry Rd., West Columbia, died on the scene of blunt force head trauma sustained in the accident, Coroner Samuetta Marshall said in a release.
The incident happened in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 159 around 11 a.m., according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
“The trailer was carrying a hazardous chemical,” Lance Cpl. David Jones, a spokesman for the Highway Patrol, said. “A little bit of the paint chemical leaked, and that’s why DHEC was called.”
