A Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputy has been promoted to become the new Captain of Northwest Richland County.

Sheriff Leon Lott promoted Joseph Odom, who has worked with the department for 22 years, to Region 4 Captain. Odom grew up in Richland County and became a courthouse deputy at the start of his career before working as a road deputy.

In a news release Odom said at first he viewed being a deputy as just a job, but has since fallen in love with serving the community he calls home.
