A Columbia man was killed early Sunday morning when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in the northeast area of the county.
Coroner Gary Watts said Lyndon S. Bartholomew, 41, of 220 Meyer Lane, Columbia, died in the collision on Highway 277 near Parklane Road around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
The coronor’s office said Bartholommew was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck the rear of a vehicle. He was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene from multiple trauma associated with the crash.
A helmet was found at the scene, but it was unclear if the victim was wearing it at the time of the crash, the coronor’s office said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
