A train struck a pickup at South Assembly Street and Rosewood Drive in Columbia Tuesday during rush hour.
The approximately 7-car train activated flashing red lights at the crossing on Rosewood Drive, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said. The driver of the red pickup stopped at the crossing, then moved forward as the train approached at a slow pace, Timmons said.
The train hit the truck on the driver’s side and pushed it 50 to 100 feet.
A woman was taken to hospital, witnesses said. She was seen walking from the scene.
The driver, who was not identified, was cited for failing to stop and obey a signal for an approaching train.
