Richland County Sheriff’s deputy and 1st Lieutenant Army National Guardsman Ryan Davis Rawl was honored Monday when a bridge at 12 Mile Creek on Barr Road in Lexington was officially named for him.
First Lieutenant Ryan Rawl Bridge was named in honor of Rawl who served and sacrificied his own life for our freedom, Sheriff Leon Lott said.
Rawl was killed in action in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber on June 20, 2012, according to Lott.
Rawl’s courage, dedication to helping others and ultimate sacrifice left a significant mark here at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Lott said.
Never miss a local story.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission dedicated the bridge to Rawl per the request of Sen. Katrina Shealy and Central Midlands Council of Governments, according to Lott.
