The Richland County Coroner confirmed Sunday that the two people killed in the early morning house fire on Saturday are the grandparents of basketball standout Seventh Woods.
Ned Woods Sr., 88, and Helen Woods, 83, died in their home as a result of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, coroner Gary Watts said in a statement released Sunday.
The fire occurred at 5147 Floran St., off Farrow Road in north Columbia, around 6:30 a.m. There were multiple space heaters in the house, which caused the fire, according to Columbia Fire Department spokesman Brick Lewis.
Seventh Woods is a junior and member of Hammond High School's varsity basketball team. He played Saturday evening, dedicating the win to his grandparents.
The fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damage to the house.
The Columbia Fire Department is continuing to investigate.
