A house fire briefly caused a portion of Highway 66 to shut down, but the roadway has been reopened after firefighters extinguished the fire according to authorities.
Early morning commuters were forced to find an alternate way to work and school after the fire closed down the highway between Old Airport Road and LIttle Egypt Road in Whitmire just before 6 a.m.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire a little after 7 a.m. and the roadway was reopened for traffic. But, authorities are urging commuters traveling through the area to be cautious because fire crews and equipment may still be in the roadway.
There is currently no cause for the fire and there has been no reports of injuries at this time.
