The 1500 block of Platt Springs Road, S.C. Highway 602, in West Columbia has reopened after crews removed a firehouse used to respond to an apartment fire.
Traffic, which was temporarily closed for about an hour, has returned to normal, according to Assistant City Administrator Brian E. Carter.
The West Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to 1524 Platt Springs Road around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after a resident observed smoke in an apartment, Carter said.
Crews arrived on the scene, observed smoke and deployed fire hoses to quickly respond to the fire, Carter said. Fire personnel were unable to locate a fire within the structure.

Carter said firefighters confirmed with a maintenance employee that the smoke was caused due to a malfunctioning blower motor in the heating system.
No injuries were reported, according to West Columbia Fire Chief Wyatt Coleman.
