S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley, R-Lexington, began her Inauguration Day with a prayer service at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral across from the State House on Wednesday.
Pastors from Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, First Baptist Church Columbia, Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Lexington, Bethlehem Baptist Church in Columbia and First Baptist Church in Spartanburg read Scripture and prayed for Haley and the state’s incoming constitutional state officers.
The governor, who is being sworn into her second, four-year term later Wednesday sat in front of her church surrounded by her husband, children and other family.
Other constitutional officers including incoming Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster, R-Columbia, and Attorney General Alan Wilson, R-Lexington, were also present at the service.
The Claflin University concert choir sang during the service as well as South Carolina's American Idol winner Candice Glover.
